This Privacy Policy explains how EventHound collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use www.EventHound.com and related services (the "Service"). We are based in California and currently make the Service available to users in the United States only. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
1) What we collect
We collect information in the categories below. Exact data depends on which features you use and your choices.
Social Login – Google and Apple account identifiers (we do not receive your passwords).
User-Generated Content (UGC) – posts, images, comments, likes, "shout-outs," business claims and verifications. UGC may include third-party business names, logos, and promotional materials supplied by users; this content is treated as user content and is hosted/displayed under the license described in our Terms of Service.
Business Information – business profiles (including public details), claim verification information you provide.
Payments – processed by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers. We may receive limited billing details (e.g., last 4 digits, card type, billing name) and transaction metadata for records and fraud prevention.
Location – precise geolocation (e.g., GPS) when you enable it in your device/browser to power nearby search and relevance. We may also infer approximate location from IP address.
Device & Usage – IP address, user agent, referral URLs, pages viewed, interactions, timestamps, crash/diagnostic logs.
Cookies/Identifiers – strictly necessary cookies for authentication and session continuity; limited identifiers to support location features and basic internal analytics.
Communications – your email and preferences for receiving service messages and product updates.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of personal information beyond precise geolocation (considered "sensitive" under some US privacy laws). See Sensitive Personal Information below.
2) Sources of information
You – when you create an account, post content, claim a business, or contact us.
Automatically – via cookies/SDKs, logs, and device/location permissions you grant.
Third Parties – Google Places API and Yelp (to enrich business information), OAuth providers (Google, Apple), and Stripe (payments).
3) How we use information
Provide and improve the Service – account creation, authentication, posting, search, nearby results, troubleshooting.
Personalize content – ranking and recommendations (e.g., popular and trending posts based on likes and availability).
Safety & moderation – automated and manual systems for profanity filtering, abuse prevention, and handling member reports.
Analytics & product development – internal measurement to understand features and performance.
Marketing – first-party emails and product messages about EventHound (you can opt out). We do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising.
Legal & compliance – records, tax, disputes, and to comply with applicable laws.
Public content & discovery
Public visibility. Content you post to public areas of EventHound (including flyers, promotions, business listings, and images) is publicly visible to others on the Service.
Search & indexing. Public content may be indexed by search engines and may be accessible via public links and embeds.
Featuring & marketing. We may feature your public content within EventHound’s discovery surfaces and in EventHound’s own marketing to promote your listings and the Service, consistent with the license you grant in our Terms of Service.
4) Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information to:
Infrastructure & Storage – AWS (Amplify, Lambda, S3) and MongoDB Atlas to host and operate the Service.
Authentication – Google and Apple for sign-in.
Payments – Stripe for payment processing and related services.
Email – AWS email services for transactional and product communications.
Maps & Places – Google Places API; we may also reference public information from Yelp.
Moderation & Security – internal tools for abuse, fraud, and spam prevention.
Legal/Compliance – to comply with law, protect rights, or in connection with a merger or sale.
Business-claim verification – we may share limited information you submit for business-claim verification with the claimed business or venue solely to verify ownership or control.
Reports & DMCA – information contained in content reports, complaints, and DMCA notices/counter-notices (including your contact details and claim text) may be shared with the other party as needed to process the report under applicable law and our policies.
We require service providers to use information only to perform services for us and to protect it appropriately.
5) Cookies & tracking
We use strictly necessary cookies for authentication and session continuity, and limited identifiers to support location features and internal analytics. Because we do not sell or share data for cross-context advertising, an opt-out for "sale/sharing" is not applicable. If you are in a jurisdiction with cookie choices, your browser or device settings may allow you to block non-essential cookies; blocking strictly necessary cookies can break login. We recognize Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a request to opt out of sale/sharing; we already do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law.
Replace the placeholder names above with your actual cookie names before publishing.
Third-party cookies
Stripe may set its own cookies when you make a payment on Stripe-hosted pages; see Stripe’s policy.
Embedded or linked third-party content (e.g., maps, business sites) may set their own cookies. We don’t control these; check the third party’s policy.
Your choices
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in or using core features.
Adjust in-app settings (e.g., disable “remember me” or location features).
Disable precise location in your device/browser settings.
Use the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal; we do not sell or share personal information.
6) Your choices and rights
Account & Communications
Update your profile or delete your account in the app.
Unsubscribe from marketing emails via the link in the message; we may still send transactional emails about your account or service.
Location Controls
You can enable/disable precise location at any time in your device/browser settings. Some features may not work without it.
California Privacy Rights (CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
Know/Access the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected about you.
Delete personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
Correct inaccurate personal information.
Portability of certain data.
Limit the use and disclosure of Sensitive Personal Information (SPI) — we use SPI (precise geolocation) only to provide the Service and for security; we do not use SPI for purposes requiring a right to limit, but you can always turn off location.
Non-discrimination for exercising your rights.
To exercise rights, email Contact@EventHound.com. We may need to verify your request. Authorized agents may submit requests with appropriate proof of authority.
7) Children’s privacy (COPPA)
EventHound is intended for users 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account or provided personal information, we will promptly delete the account and associated personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has used the Service or provided information to us, please contact Contact@EventHound.com so we can take appropriate action. We do not serve third-party behavioral advertising to children and the Service is not directed to children.
8) Data retention
Default – we retain personal information while your account is active plus 24 months, then delete or de-identify it unless we need it for legal, security, or business continuity purposes.
UGC – posts, images, comments, and business records persist until you delete them or your account is deleted, subject to backup cycles and legal holds.
Logs/Analytics – retained for operational and security purposes for a limited period consistent with the default rule.
Payments – Stripe retains payment records per its legal obligations; we keep related transaction metadata for records and disputes.
9) Security
We implement technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including TLS in transit, encryption at rest (via our cloud providers), role-based access controls, least-privilege practices, password hashing, rate limiting, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure; please use strong, unique passwords and keep your account credentials confidential.
10) Sensitive Personal Information (SPI)
We process precise geolocation to provide nearby results and related features. We do not use SPI to infer characteristics or for advertising. You can disable location at any time in your device/browser settings.
11) International data transfers
The Service is intended for the United States. We do not target or offer the Service to residents of the EU/EEA or UK at this time. Data is processed in the United States by us and our service providers.
12) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our practices evolve. If we make material changes, we will notify you via in-app notice and/or email. The "Effective date" above shows when this version took effect.
We collect the categories listed in Section 1 for the purposes in Section 3. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CPRA. We retain information as described in Section 8. For rights and how to submit requests, see Section 6.
This plain-English Privacy Policy is provided for transparency and is not a contract. If any part conflicts with applicable law, the law controls.
